A paradise for birds

Extremadura is one of the best ornithological tourism destinations in Europe, due to the diversity of bird species and the number of protected natural parks in the region, according to the SEO/Birdlife organisation.

In recognition of its ornithological importance, 74.1% of its extensive territory has been included in the inventory of Important Bird Areas in Spain (SEO/BirdLife, 1995), an exceptional situation both at national and European level.

Our area is undoubtably an authentic birdwatching paradise due to the excellent state of conservation of its natural habitats, in which Mediterranean vegetation finds one of its best expressions. La Dehesa (wood pasture) is the most emblematic landscape of the region and plays a crucial role in the great diversity of birds, as many species are closely associated with this valuable habitat.
